Denver March 2011

Well Well Well... look who decided to pay attention to her blog today! It has been awhile... No doubt... But hey,I still got the blogging fetish in me! lol.... So this year during Denver March 2011 we had Isis to travel with. And she was such a good girl on the plane. There was an older couple sitting next to us and said that she was a very good baby compared to some that they sit by on flights. It was very different being with baby at the pow wow. I only got to see adults contest on Sunday because we had to leave early to keep baby on schedule. (Jude and I also took my cousin).

We made baby a little play place so she didn't always have to be carried.

Traveling with my baby belly

Hello all! Well its time for another update :0) I have an appointment in two days [Wed.June 23,2010] but I feel like I should just update for the heck of it. Well in the past two weekends we have been traveling and just seeing the people we love while I'm still carrying baby. For the first weekend [June 10-June 14] we went to Table Mountain Pow-Wow. OH MY GOSH what a long drive! I took many pillows to keep me comfortable and slept a lot along the way to ease the uncomfortable-ness of the car ride. The pw was good, hot, and very nice to be at. I wasn't so uncomfortable there.

We went to Santa Monica Pier and took some pics there.Haha... this pic is my maternity model pic!!! lol jk.. I didn't really realize my ankles at the time, but once I uploaded the pics I seen my ankles [and they were soo huge!] it felt like there was jelly or water inside my feet. lol..

This last weekend [June 19-20] we went to the Hopi Rez. Before we left I took my weight at work and so far I've gained 26 pounds. lol. I don't feel big. I can't really walk for a long time, I can't sit for a long time. My back aches more and I've been taking more baths to ease my lower back aches. While at home, we [Jude and I] were like the babysitters. lol. SOOOO many kids out there. But it was good. It was really windy and dusty outside so we really weren't outside that much, but watched the dances from inside. Of course there was food galore and I probably gained more weight just from the weekend, but I didn't hold back when someone told me to come eat lol.

Ahhhhh well I'm so sleepy now. I took a nap and ate again. So back to bed I go!!!

Na nights.

Baby at 7 months!

28 weeks = 7 months! Seems like it was just a lil while back that I found out I was pregnant. :0) Our little one is now 2.5 pounds. She/he is growing and growing and I can now feel and see baby starting to play inside. It's a feeling that I know Jude won't understand, but when it happens I want him to feel and see it happening too. From my May 5th ultrasound we found out that baby had a small abdomen. Or that babys abdomen was not growing like it should be. So, of course we freaked out and I had to go to a specialist to get more accurate measurments. We did that this past Tuesday and it turns out that baby is just fine when it comes to his/her measurements. So, all is well in that area. They tried to get a picture of babys face but she/he wouldn't let the Dr. do so. lol. [*Baby is a shy one*] Baby also wouldn't let the Dr. look at her/his private area. hehe. The Dr. said that Baby was sitting "campfire style" and so the Dr. couldn't tell if baby was a girl or a boy.

Today I had another check up appt that took about twenty minutes. They checked the babys heart rate and my blood pressure. [All is well :0)] I also registered myself for the hospital we want to have the baby at. We were looking at doing some classes, but still aren't to sure if we will. There's this "Boot Camp for Dads" that seems like a cool one for Jude. [But we'll see] My next appt is in another two weeks (June 6th) which will be another checkup. As for me, I've gained 18 pounds (which puts me at 138.4 lbs) and expect to be gaining even more. :0) My complaints lately have been my feet and my back. I like to lay and watch tv at night. But, I hate to get up while watching tv because it makes my lower back hurt. It's very uncomfortable. My pants are tighter (I usually wear sweats now and the belly band is my necessity), I bought new tops, and my underwear seem to be shrinking. lol..

Recently the residents are finally seeing my bump and yesterday morning one of them said to me "Are you going to have a baby?", I replied "yes", he got soooo excited and started rubbing my belly and says in a semi-serious voice "Well, thats what you get for screwing around.." lol.. then he just starts laughing.

Until the next time.

*toodles*

April 7, 2010

Today I went to yet another ultrasound. It was short & sweet. Baby is healthy. She/he is at 144 bpm and my bp was a good one too :0). They weighed me and I gained almost 7 pounds, which puts me at 127 lbs! Definately my highest weight ever! lol. But its ok, I know its not all me. And atleast baby is growing. I recently bought the Bella Band at Target the other day so I could wear my jeans. Here's an example of what it looks like.

Tonight Jude and I went to see my dad and So'o at Ft. Mcdowell Casino. We ate at the buffet and OMG it was soooo good!. I seriously ate so much that when I came home I looked and felt like a balloon *literally* my tummy was sooo hard. lol. Anyway, I'm glad I got to see both of them as well as my uncle and his girlfriend that got to come along too :0) I think I needed that rejuvination you get when you see your family. Just the warmth of their hugs makes me feel 10x's better :0). Better yet, once we were done eating I played $10 and won $56. lol. I never win! But I felt my hand itch while walking through the casino and decided to play a little. :0) I forgot what I won on, but it was a penny machine and after that I gave some moolah to my daddy so he could have more fun lol. It was nice to see that even though my So'o is as old as she is her sons (my dad and uncle) were tagging right beside her like little kids lol. Our time together tonight was short, but it definately made my day! Here's a picture of my So'o at Christmas time with her Phoenix Suns clock. :0) She loves the SUNS!

My uncle finally heard that I was pregnant and he was sure suprised that I was already 5 months. Man how time flies! Now, I can't wait to go home for the summertime and enjoy myself!

Update :0)

Ahh my baby makes her/his presence known :0) Since I don't have another appointment until April I decided to update now. As you can see from the picture I'm starting to show.. Baby is getting bigger and I feel bigger also. I'm not HUGE lol. Yet I can definately see her/him.. I sent this same picture to my dad and my godsister Amelda in NM. My dad's response was "Dang, is dat u?!" lol. and my godsister showed her daughter (who is also my godsister) and I guess she threw out a big "OMG She's huge!" in front of everyone at wherever they were at and people around them were just laughing at her reaction. I'm sure that if you see me out and about you'll see that I'm not THAT big. The angle of the camera probably made me look bigger than I am.

Spring break was definately good! I was soo happy to wake up on the Monday morning of spring break and not have to go to class. Thursday we left for Denver and it was my first real trip being pregnant. :0) Nothing different than last year really, except that I was more hungry and a lot more uncomfortable in the chairs. But it was good to be there :0)

Anyway, thats it for now. :0)

Nighty Night Luvs..

Second Ultrasound

Awww my beautiful baby! On Wednesday March 10th 2010 we saw our baby once again. This time they were going to get a full ultrasound. So my instructions were to drink 32 oz of water an hour or so before the ultrasound appointment.(I also drank a little bit of apple juice because I heard it helped the baby wake up.) That night I had a nightmare about drinking the 32 oz of water. I dreamt that once I drank the water I blacked out and I couldn't see the baby when they were doing the ultrasound. lol.. Of course it was just a dream. haha...

When I drank the water and I honestly thought I was gonna pee my pants before I got to the ultrasound chair! I let my mom and dad know how I was feeling and all they texted back was "you should wear depends" lol. I was like "thanks"... Anyway, their humor helped a little. And it was very much worth it once I got to see our baby.

Baby went from 11.7 cm to 15 cm in two weeks! Crazy right!? He/she was also moving Matrix style. Which was good to see. I couldn't feel her/him moving but I'm sure that will come in time :0) They gave us four pics this time instead of three. I need a baby book so I can put them in there.. Ahhh Memories!

As for me, I've gained 1 lb. haha. I seriously feel like I have gained millions but 1lb is still good. (they say). So 121 lbs is my new weight for now. I'm still doing good as far as my body. My back is my only real problem right now. And when I work my feet ache when I get back home. I'm still eating frequently....Hungry, but I don't really eat much. I just eat frequently.

I'm really looking forward to spring break. Probably more than I've ever looked forward to it. haha. I'm glad I'll be going to Denver for part of the break. I'm excited, it's the first Pow-Wow I went to Jude with :0)

Well, I'm glad you all stopped by. I have a headache right now,bleh... I'm handing out watching tv and loving it because I have no school work to worry about right now and its a great feeling to have!!

Words from my momma! :0)

This info I had wanted for Jude and I because even though I have been to a lot of baby namings, I thought my mom would be better at explaining it to Jude than I would. She probably got this out of her "book" which she keeps everything she has done in the Hopi way... All the ceremonies and what she's had to do as a me-wi, what time we should get up and go to the village etc. Anyway, this is all in my moms words. Nothing was edited or deleted. I am an only child and I think she wants her grandbaby to be brought into this world the "right way" or the "Hopi way" (*and I do too!). Enjoy your reading!

1. First of all - a reminder again that when EVERYTIME you go in to the doctor, YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW THE GENDER OF THE BABY!!"

2. No purchasing of baby items BEFORE the baby is born....

Ok, now for the story..... Ahhh heeem (clearing my throat!!)

When the baby is born, the mom and baby are taken home and the so-ohcomes to the house and 'builds a house" by markiing the four walls inside the room where the baby and mom will stay for the next 20 days. The markings are made with white corn meal and is also for protection. The so-oh will come to the house every morning and at night to bath the baby and rub with 'qots-vi" (finely ground up ashes) The qots-vi will help with the shedding or peeling of the baby and also remove body hair. The so-oh also leaves an ear of perfect white corn (mother corn) which stays with the baby throughout the next 19 days. Sometimes the so-oh will bring food for the mom (breakfast and dinner). During the 20 days, mom has to fast..No salt, fats, etc, only blue marbles, piki, and other Hopi food. You can also have fruits and vegetables, just no fats or salt. The mom's family can feed the so-oh and who ever comes with her to take care of the baby.

On the 18th day, the dad's family will pick up the baby and mom's clothes and go washing (allll clothes, blankets, sheets, etc). The mom's family will feed them when they return. The mom's family will be baking bread and pastries for the feast day and also to give to the boys family - who ever comes to wash and name the baby.

On the 19th day, the final preparations for the feast day, more baking, me-we's come to make pikami (pudding), the dad's family comes to make the nokquivi (stew). THe stew is made in the evening and the ladies will watch the stew until it boils and meat/corn is cooked well.

20th day - THE BIG DAY!! The dad's family comes to wash the baby using the 'mother corn'. Once the baby is washed, THEN new clothes can be put on him/her. The dad's family also washes the mom's hair. Once this is completed, the boys family will name the baby - according to their clan. Then the dad or grandpa makes a trail with cornmeal from inside the house to the door way followed by the so-oh, mom and baby. They go out to the sun for the first time and so-oh presents the baby to the sun, so-oh and mom say a prayer then the fun part of 'eatting again"!! Nokquivi, pikami, piki, bread, pastries, etc. The so-oh will feed the baby by dipping a little pikami in the nokquivi and giving to him/her. The grandpa then gets on the roof and makes an announcement that there is a feast and invites everyone to come eat. He says all the names of the baby. (This isn't done very often any more)

From that day forward the baby is known by the 'baby name' until the first initiation, which can be as early as 10 years of age.

The purpose for the 20 days is that for 9 months the baby is protected in the womb, being fed and nutured by the mom. So anything the mom eats, drinks, how she feels is felt by the baby. The birth is 'traumatic' to the outside world and is also new so the markings on the wall and staying inside for 20 days is a transition to the outside world. The baby gets to know the parents and family members because they're taking care of him/her...it's also good to have someone take care of the baby so moms don't have to do this for a while!!!

I hope this helps ...there's a lot of preparation BEFORE the naming, like making piki, shelling corn, washiing and preparing for the stew, sometimes the dad's family will bring a sheep to butcher for the stew so that's done before the naming..Maybe you can come out for Ruby Fae's naming so you'll get an idea of what happens on the baby naming day. Teeyo's mom will be taking care odf the baby once they get here from Kansas up until the naming. Remember there's also Amber's baby naming probably sometime in April!!
